National Visa

Documents Required

All documents must be recent (within 30 days) and submitted as originals with photocopies. Any non-English/French/German/Italian documents must be submitted with certified translations.

Application Form

• Completed and signed Type D visa application form
• Separate form required for each applicant (including accompanying family members)

Passport

• Issued within the last 10 years
• Valid for at least 6 months beyond the end of your intended stay
• Must contain at least 2 blank pages

UK Residency

• Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code

Photographs

• Two recent passport-sized photographs, 35 x 45 mm
• Plain background, no edits or digital enhancements

Internship Agreement

• Signed internship contract from the Swiss host company or institution
• Must outline duties, start and end dates, location, and remuneration (if any)
• May require pre-approval by Swiss labour market authorities in specific cases

Enrolment Confirmation

• Letter from your UK or home university stating:
  • Current enrolment status
  • Degree course and academic year
  • That the internship is a mandatory or study-related component
  • Duration and justification for the internship placement

Proof of Sufficient Funds

Evidence that you can financially support yourself during the internship (minimum CHF 30 per day as per student reference rates or CHF 100 for general applicants). Accepted options include:

• Internship stipend or salary (official letter or contract showing amount)
• Scholarship confirmation letter
• Blocked account showing required monthly availability (approx. CHF 1,500/month)
• Formal undertaking (“Verpflichtungserklärung”) from a sponsor in Switzerland
• Proof of maintenance loan from the UK government or scholarship body

Academic Curriculum Vitae

• A detailed CV highlighting academic background, qualifications, and any prior internships or practical experiences

Health Insurance

• Documentation confirming comprehensive health insurance valid in Switzerland
• Must cover medical expenses and repatriation and include your name and coverage period

Accommodation

• Confirmed accommodation arrangement in Switzerland
• Rental agreement, student housing confirmation, or written guarantee from your host institution

Additional Documents for Accompanying Family Members (If Applicable)

• Separate Type D visa application for each accompanying dependent
• Passport, UK residency proof, and two biometric photographs
• Proof of relationship (marriage or birth certificate with certified translation if needed)

Photo Specifications

• Provide two recent colour photograph (taken within the last 6 months).
• The background must be light (white or off-white) to ensure facial features are clearly visible.
• The photo must be of high clarity, with the face fully in focus.
• The image must show a neutral expression with the full face visible.
• No smiling, no sunglasses, and no hats or caps are permitted.
• Head coverings are only allowed for religious or cultural reasons, but the face must be fully visible.
• The photo must be printed on standard photographic paper (camera print).
• Attach the photograph to the visa application form using a paper clip (do not glue or staple).

If the submitted photograph does not meet these specifications, the application will be deemed incomplete and the applicant.
